YouTube just started supporting HDR video on Apple’s latest iPhones

YouTube has added high-dynamic range (HDR) video for Android devices for quite a while now. The Android devices such as the Pixel, LG V30, Galaxy S8, and Xperia XZ Premium. And now in the latest update of Youtube application, Apple users can now check out HDR videos on their iPhone X, 8 and 8 plus devices as well.

Google-owned YouTube now has a plenty of great demo material for seeing the improved picture for yourself. Yo just need to search “HDR” and you’ll find no shortage of exotic scenery, cityscapes, food, animals, and other demo reel material.

Apple’s iPhone switched over to HDR automatically once it started streaming a video, but you can also tap the icon with three vertical dots to manually enable it. The thing to note here is that since it’s really all about brightness, color, and contrast. Picking 1080p isn’t important to enjoy HDR as it is also supported at lower resolutions like 480p.

The feature was previously added by Netflix to iPhone 8, iPhone X and iPad Pro devices last September in 2017.
YouTube has been bringing quite a lot of new updates in its mobile applications such as allowing users to watch videos within Whatsapp and Youtube is also working on removing ads from inappropriate videos targeting families, block inappropriate comments on videos featuring minors.
Youtube is also focused on providing guidance for creators who make family-friendly content and get advice from experts.
