The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a notification which allows people to renew their CNIC without the submission of the old ID card.
NADRA issued a notification saying this move will give “fair chance to all citizens to exercise their right to vote”. It states “Under this clause, all Data Entry Acquisition Units (DAUs) shall not demand applicants to surrender their old CNIC and shall be allowed to vote on it too. The old CNIC shall only be surrendered once the new CNIC has been delivered. On whether or not applicants shall be allowed to vote on an expired document, the NADRA official confirmed that “applicants shall have the right to cast vote on an expired CNIC too”.
NADRA spokesman Faik Ali Chachar said the notification will remain effective till the day of election i.e 25th July. He further added NADRA wants all citizens to use their right of casting vote in general elections 2018 and this move will definitely facilitate the citizens in helping caste their vote.
In January 2018, the interior minister informed the Senate that NADRA had found more than 58,000 fake or suspicious CNIC which now have been “temporarily digitally impounded in NADRA’s database”.
NADRA has also introduced such facilitated services for its citizens. In May 2018, (NADRA) launched mobile registration services using Nadra Mobile vehicles which will provide facilities at the doorsteps of the public.
The Nadra mobile cars would reach the places where Nadra mobile vans cannot reach and process applications of men and women with minimum documents required for the registration. This project will speed up Nadra registration process and it will assist the election commission of Pakistan so that all the Pakistani men and women, by using the right of their vote, can play their active role together in the development of the country.
