UnionPay International, a leading banking card company, has signed an agreement with the popular online shopping website, iShopping.pk, to allow the use of its UnionPay Online Payment (UPOP) service. This will allow UnionPay users to perform secure online transactions on the website using their UnionPay cards. UnionPay is a relatively new player in the banking card market in Pakistan, and this agreement will help boost the acceptance of the brand in the country.
Along with being able to securely make purchases and checkout using their cards from the website, loyal UnionPay users will also have the benefit of a digital wallet, containing special perks, on iShopping.pk. QR codes will also be introduced to facilitate easier checkouts and take away the hassle associated with online transactions. The service has been especially developed by UnionPay International to offer a totally secure and reliable way to make online purchases. An example of this is the fact that users will receive a unique one time password (OTP) on their registered mobile phone upon each online transaction they make, in order to ensure it is really them making the transaction. This will help to prevent fraud and misuse of the service.
While talking to the press, Mr. Han Wang, General Manager of UnionPay International Middle East Branch said, “UnionPay International is pleased to enter into the formal relationship with one of the pioneer online shopping platforms in the country. This partnership is a positive step towards the digitization of Pakistan. It also reaffirms UPI’s commitment to offering safe and convenient online and offline payment experience to all UnionPay cardholders.” And Mr. Jamal Dhedhi, CEO of iShopping.pk added, “this agreement is going to be an ultimate dexterity in online payments.” Both expressed that the two companies were keen to be working with each other.
