An exploding iPhone 6 Plus was caught on the camera of a mobile repairer’s shop.
Australian Simon Owen shared a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage on social media of smoke coming out of the iPhone 6 Plus moments after the customer walked into his repair shop in Queensland.
A customer came into the store with screen damaged iPhone 6+ for repair. According to Owen, the customer came to get his iPhone’s screen fixed and he was also complaining about the battery of his phone not holding charge.
The CCTV footage shows the customer pressing his iPhone with his thumbs when all of a sudden smoke starts to come out of the phone. The whole shop is filled with smoke in no time and then Owen uses a fire extinguisher to prevent the phone from causing a fire. Owen said,
“It’s 100 percent pure coincidence that it happened when he was talking to the repairer. Imagine if he was driving down the highway at the time. Our service counter has a giant hole in it.”
The video shows that the iPhone screen was already cracked and it’s unclear how it was actually damaged. There are no reports of whether the issue was reported to Apple. Owen also said that this was not the first time the shop has experienced problems with exploding Apple devices.
Last month, a video of exploding iPhone 7 Plus went viral on Twitter and freaked everyone out. The video showed the smoke coming out from the side of the phone and then the phone exploded. Brianna Olivas, the owner of the phone, reached out to Apple and the company was reported looking into the matter.
A similar thing happened with Samsung Note 7 last year. The insulation failure led to the heating of batteries and as a result, Samsung had to recall all Note 7 smartphones.
