Yandex: The browser finally evolves?

Over the past two decades, we’ve seen the web not only grow in size but also evolve from within, not much unlike a caterpillar evolving into a butterfly or like Charmander into Charizard. We’ve seen websites develop into isolated applications and it isn’t at all uncommon to see several websites permanently loaded within our friends’ and family’s browser tabs. With collaboration, innovation and expression of individuality for common than ever before and with a collection to cater audiences expanding the cracks and niches of human culture, it was about time someone realised that our browsers had essentially remained the same for this entire time.

The same consistent bars at the top and the same millions of add-ons obstructing the actual experience of the web. Aside from the development of tabbed browsing, no major visual changes have been presented to the virtual consumers i.e. us. Imagine standing on top of the most beautiful valley in the world, or below of a misty cascading waterfall, but being forced to take it all in through the limited view of the equivalent of an edgy wood window. It was time to adapt, again.

Now comes Yandex. Landing safely in top few browsers in terms of beauty, elegance and design. The browser is so far only an Alpha stage launch but the potential it shows could be what the web actually looks like in the next year or so. To elaborate on the interface, let’s speak about a couple of specifics.

The home page shows a minimalistic and elegant 8 box view of your most frequented webpages along with a floating URL bar. The backgrounds are live images of scenic destinations and the tabs take their place surely at the bottom, color-coded obviously. The interface itself is barely visible with exactly what you need delivered only when you really need it.

The functionality has a couple of bugs but confidence is strong with the alpha-version only open for download.

For all the TechJuice readers looking for a new and different web-experience, where the priority lies on the web and not the browser, Yandex is definitely worth a shot. For the rest of view, this is simply a potential view into what might lay ahead.
