Unlike Samsung Galaxy Fold, Xiaomi’s double folding phone will be crease-free.
We know that the Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is all set to release the world’s first double bending smartphone to triumph the competition, but so far the company has only released its promotional videos. As of now, a new 10-second video of the upcoming phone has been posted to Xiaomi’s official Weibo account and YouTube showing the phone’s double-fold in action, as well as what looks like a swipe-to-go-back gesture.
This newly posted video is quite short but sweet in a manner as well, because it has clarified some of the confusing details of the upcoming foldable phone of Xiaomi. The video teaser shows a reasonably fluid transition from tablet to smartphone mode, both in physical terms as well as regarding the animations on the screen.
It must be noted that currently, only Samsung’s Galaxy Fold promises a foldable phone with the display on the inside. Whereas every other phone maker is preferring to put the display on the outside, just like the Huawei Mate X. This not only creates a problem of a crease at the point of the device’s fold, but it also puts the screen in much more danger of getting scratched or otherwise damaged.
The video revealed us the best sense yet of what the folded Xiaomi device will look like. When used as a phone, it appears quite wide, even more than the typical long smartphones of today, and it looks to be a fair bit thicker too. The video also shows off the back gesture, which seems handy when the device is in tablet mode.
Xiaomi’s foldable phone is expected to be released in the second quarter of this year in somewhere between April to June. The phone is expected to cost almost half the price of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold.
