Xiaomi intends to launch a smartphone with a 48MP camera in January to showcase the capabilities of Qualcomm’s new chipset, Snapdragon 675. When the chipset was revealed, Qualcomm had invited Xiaomi’s Vice President Manu Kumar Jain to discuss the partnership between both brands. He detailed that Xiaomi was coming up with a gaming phone utilizing the Snapdragon 675 and recent details show Xiaomi intends to use the chipset to its full potential.
Xiaomi President Bin Lin shared the above photo on Twitter and as you can see, it shows a possible true tone LED flash with a 48MP sensor above it. The Snapdragon 675 facilitates the phone’s camera in snapshot mode, therefore, a bigger possibility we will be seeing a phone with this chipset. As to the sensor, it is possible Xiaomi is using a Sony’s IMX586 imaging module.
Snapdragon 675 is based on 2 Cortex A76 cores for higher performance tasks and 6 Cortex A55 cores for prolonged battery life. It is built on 11nm lithography so there is improved battery efficiency compared to most other chipsets available in the market. It also features major optimizations to deliver smooth gaming experience on mid-tier phones.
Xiaomi’s upcoming phone is expected to retail around the $300 to $400 price point. Are you looking forward to it?
