The ‘Flagship Killer’ tagline has long been associated with OnePlus smartphones ever since its inception in 2014. OnePlus has successfully developed itself as a value-for-money brand and has ruined marketing stunts of various phone makers for their expensive devices. But as the company has just introduced its most expensive smartphone ever — OnePlus 7 Pro, its rival Chinese brand Xiaomi is trolling it by teasing their own product with supposedly a competitive price range.
As soon as the OnePlus 7 Pro’s launch event winded up and the price was announced, Xiaomi’s VP Manu Jain and official sub-brand Redmi took to Twitter recently to rejoice OnePlus on its latest flagship device. But only to troll company’s ‘Flagship Killer’ tagline which has now transformed to ‘Never Settle’ (probably with the price). Both tweets included an image which teased the upcoming launch of Redmi’s own “Flagship Killer 2.0” which is likely going to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset.
The trolling reached its peak when Xiaomi also published a brief post on its official forums that confirmed the company’s understanding of the fact that “not everyone can afford a flagship”, as the post stated:
“Flagship Killers breathed a new life into the industry and made smartphones with great specs accessible to the masses. But it looks like many who promised to be Flagship Killers then have lost their path. They are choosing to “Never Settle” when it comes to pricing. At Xiaomi, we’ve believed in making innovation accessible to everyone by developing such Flagship Killers. As you will see again soon.”
As for the upcoming Samsung phone of Xiaomi, we don’t know much about the specs and features of the phone but that it will be called Redmi K20. Moreover, this Redmi flagship is likely to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 on the inside and 48-megapixel rear camera setup with a pop-up selfie camera also appears to be in-cite, as supported by rumors.
