Xiaomi to triumph the competition with the world’s first double bending smartphone

There was a time when people used to get excited about smartphones. But as they became iterative upgrades, the interest started to fade away. Things are bound to change as foldable phones make their way into the market. Of the many companies investing in this tech, Xiaomi is one of the first to come up with a functional prototype of a new double bending smartphone.

Xiaomi’s co-founder and president, Bin Lin has shared a video where he is seen using the world’s first double bending smartphone. The video starts off with a tablet and then he folds two sides of the tablet to reveal a smartphone.

Xiaomi has been working on this for quite some time. They claim that they have successfully tackled various elements of the foldable phone including the display and MI UI.

The device is nothing short of breathtaking. From minimalistic bezels to the thin profile, it looks gorgeous. But there are some flaws in such a design. The first is that unlike traditional smartphones, this hybrid has two points of failures. In addition to that, the device will be extremely fragile as when folded the screen will be exposed. This could also result in the screen getting scratched easily.

We have to stress that this is an engineering prototype and not a commercial product. The final retail product might vary drastically from this design.

The first phone that comes to mind when you look at it is Samsung’s foldable phone, Galaxy F. While Samsung did showcase the foldable phone back in November, it did not reveal the design. You’ll have to wait till 20th February for that.

Xiaomi’s take is a bit different from Samsung’s and we have to admit it looks more appealing. The other interesting thing to look out for will be the price. Xiaomi is known for offering great products are really low prices, but will the foldable follow the same route? If it does, then it will surely boost the adoption of this new category of devices.
