Recently, Xiaomi has been teasing its fans in India with campaign “Desh Ka Smartphone” (smartphone of the country). It looks like the Chinese brand has fulfilled its promise. Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been launched which is the most affordable smartphone by Xiaomi until now, which is a far better alternative than Nokia 2 which is priced at 11,430 PKR.
Redmi 5A is the predecessor of Redmi 4A which was launched in Pakistan last year and now priced at Rs. 12,249. Surprisingly, the newer version of this series is expected to cost at an even lower price.
The Redmi 5A shares a lot with its predecessor, same internal hardware, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The phone features a 13MP f/2.2 camera on the rear. It has a 5MP f/2.0 front camera. There’s now a dedicated microSD slot in addition to two SIM card slots, and the 3000mAh battery is designed to provide two days’ worth of usage, once fully charged.
Redmi 5A features a 5.0-inch 720p screen. The phone is powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset. Redmi 5A runs MIUI 9 out of the box, the latest software interface of Xiaomi.
Xiaomi VP and managing director for India Manu Kumar Jain stated,
“We strongly believe that the best of technology should be made accessible to as many people as possible, because technology can improve lives. With Redmi 5A we take another step in offering a great all-round experience for users looking for their first smartphone. We believe Redmi 5A is the smartphone for everyone.”
Interestingly, in India, the phone will be sold in $77 initially for the first 5 million units. Later on, the price of the phone will be equal to base variant Redmi 4A. Xiaomi is expected to launch this ground-breaking and budget-friendly smartphone in Pakistan, expected to cost under 10,000 PKR.
