Xiaomi joins Samsung, Apple to become one of the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturers

Xiaomi has had a rough couple of months but the smartphone manufacturer has slowly and steadily made its way back to being one of the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in the world.

Xiaomi has been throwing out multiple products into the market which include its high-end devices like the Redmi Note 4, the Mi 6, and with the all new Mi 5X coming out soon the popularity of the company would surely increase. The company also rolled out the MIUI 9 – its mobile interface update – to their numerous Mi and Redmi series devices. They also released a Bluetooth headphone receiver just last month. Xiaomi has been growing but its growth has been so haphazard that company’s CEO Lei Jun step up to tell employees that they’ll be slowing down and refocusing on what’s important.

Nonetheless, Xiaomi’s sales have been increasing and according to Strategy Analytics, in the second quarter, its annual shipment rocketed by 58%. This allowed Xiaomi to take over 6% of the global market share.

Samsung and Apple still clinch the top two spots, respectively despite the fact that their shipments haven’t increased much. Samsung shipped 2% more smartphones while Apple’s shipments were up by only 1% as compared to the same quarter last year. By shipping 79.5 million smartphones Samsung is the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world. On the other hand, Apple sold even fewer phones as compared to the last quarter. However, its sales are expected to go up significantly once the new flagship iPhones are launched this fall.

Huawei and Oppo retained their spots on the 3rd and 4th place.
