X Announces Major Price Increase for Premium Plus Subscription in the U.S., Europe, and More

X has significantly raised the price of its Premium Plus subscription in several regions, aiming to enhance payouts to platform creators. The price increase, which came into effect on December 21st, has affected users in the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

The Annual Premium Plus subscription in the United States has increased from $168 to $229, while the monthly Premium Plus subscription has increased by 37.5% from $16 to $22. Monthly prices in several European countries, such as France, Germany, and Spain, have increased from €16 to €21. Additionally, subscribers in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom will be subject to increased fees, with prices increasing to $26, $35, and £17, respectively.

New subscribers will immediately see the amended prices, while existing Premium Plus users will maintain their current rates until January 20th. X has stated that the adjustments will not affect its baseline subscription tier.

The price hike represents the most significant increase in Premium Plus subscription costs since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022. X justifies the rise on recent Premium Plus upgrades, including the entire elimination of advertisements, which the firm calls a “significant enhancement” to the user experience. Subscriptions now fund author compensation, encouraging content quality and engagement rather than ad views, according to X.

In addition, Premium Plus subscribers will be granted access to new features, including the X Radar trend monitoring tool, priority support, and increased limits on the Grok AI models of the platform.

The price increases in international markets are even more severe, with consumers in Nigeria and Turkey experiencing significant increases. The monthly cost of X Premium+ in Nigeria is increasing from ₦7,300 to ₦34,000, which includes additional features and eliminates advertisements. The price will increase from ₺300 to ₺770 for Turkish consumers, resulting in a comparable increase.

Even though some users are reacting to the price increase, X is adamant that these modifications will continue to support creators on the platform and maintain the quality of its service.
