World’s first phone call was made 45 years ago by a Motorolla phone

Motorolla is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the world’s first commercially available mobile phone named Motorola DynaTAC.

The world’s first phone call was made on April 3, 1973, a Motorola Corporation employee named Martin Cooper made the first mobile call. It took the device ten years before it reached consumers hands. On September 2, 1983, Motorola made history after the FCC approved the 8000x, the world’s first portable cell phone. The device hit the market with a huge $3,995 price tag at that time.

The phone weighed 2 lbs and measured about 13 inches. You had to charge it for 10 hours to talk for 30 minutes, and it could hold up to 30 contacts. The device was very expensive at that time and very few people were able to get a hold of it. And now, after 45 years around 5 billion people around the world own a mobile phone.

As in 2017, text messaging turned 25 years old, it appears that calling feature was already made available on many phones. Chicago-based Motorola pioneered the technology and is celebrating this remarkable innovation by offering a discount on some of its products in the US.

So let’s start with the Moto G and X series, which are getting up to $100 off. The Moto E series gets up to $40 off.
Finally, the Moto Z series gets up to $150 off. These discounts are only available on select models in the series and vary depending upon the variant you choose. So, for example, while the 64GB Moto G5s Plus gets $100 off, the 32GB gets only $50 off.

Along with the smartphones, there is also a flat 25% off on most of the Moto Mods, including the Moto Style Shell, Moto Folio, Polaroid Insta-Share Printer, Moto Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa, Moto TurboPower Pack, JBL SoundBoost 2, Moto 360 Camera, Moto Power Pack, Hasselblad True Zoom, JBL SoundBoost and the Moto Insta-Share Projector.
