World Bank offers technical support to KP for various projects

The World Bank (WB) has expressed interest in providing technical assistance and support for establishing projects such as citizen facilitation centres, integrating ease of doing business platforms and improving fibre connectivity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As reported by The News, the WB Country Director to Pakistan Najy Benhassine agreed to take practical steps for executing the above-mentioned projects when he called on KP Minister for Science and Information Technology and Food Atif Khan here on Tuesday.

Managing Director Information Technology Board Ali Mahmud and other relevant officials were present on the occasion, according to an official handout.

Both discussed investment opportunities for international donors in various projects approved in the annual development programme of this year in the IT sector.

Atif Khan said that the KP government had approved various projects of digitization in the Science and Information Technology Department to ensure transparency in administrative matters, provision of basic services to the citizens, employment opportunities and an increase in provincial exports.

Earlier this week, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government made a historic increase of 137 percent for the promotion of science and technology by allocating Rs2.5 billion rupees in the financial year 2020-21. According to Atif Khan, this is indicative of the special attention that the government is willing to pay to the IT sector in the province.
