Windows Phone overtakes iOS in Pakistan, owing to booming sales of Lumia 535

Windows Phone has taken the second position in terms of the volume sales in Pakistan as told by Patrick Mercanton, head of marketing for Near-East, North Africa, Levant and Emerging Asia for Microsoft Mobile Devices. The Windows smartphone has become the 2nd most popular mobile OS in Pakistan behind Google Android and iOS.

In an interview to The News, Patrick Marcanaton stated that feature phone sales are still holding out well for Microsoft mobile due to offering value for money, legendary design and features mastered by Nokia. The change of the brand name from Nokia to Microsoft hasn’t impacted their goodwill in any respect. Activations of Lumia smartphones tripled by a third last quarter in Pakistan, which leads to the fact that users are interested in this OS other than Android or iOS.

With an expected Windows 10 launch worldwide in end of July, its cross screen benefits may help the OS being used more. The price point being targeted by Microsoft mobile is in the range of Rs 8,000-Rs 20,000 for Pakistan. Thanks to the booming sales of Lumia 535, Pakistan is at number 1 slot in the price segment of $100-$150 smartphones globally.
