Google Pay will officially arrive in Pakistan by mid-March 2025, ending months of speculation and rumours.
Sources informed Techjuice that the official launch of Google Pay was postponed from its original November 2024 schedule. Collaborations between Visa and Mastercard are anticipated to ease the implementation. Also, local banks plan to make their cards work with this new feature.
Despite Google Wallet‘s extensive feature set, this app version will be optimized to facilitate Google’s nationwide contactless payment system. Users can quickly link their bank-issued credit and debit cards to Google Pay using the Google Wallet app.
Users in Pakistan will be able to handle boarding passes, digital passes, payments, and more with the customized Google Wallet app. This is undoubtedly a huge step towards pushing a contactless payment system statewide.
A number of important banks have already joined forces with Visa and Mastercard to meet the service’s technical criteria, and the necessary steps are now underway. In the meantime, all of Pakistan’s top banks are eagerly waiting for it to start so they can take advantage of its potential.
The payment system in Pakistan is ready for the launch. Mobile contactless payment systems are compatible with roughly 99% of the 133,000 point-of-sale terminals that are now active in the country.
