A new feature has been added to the instant messaging network WhatsApp that allows users to save contacts across all of their devices. Users of the Meta-owned platform will soon be able to select a new option that allows them to save a contact only for WhatsApp.
Up until now, users could only add contacts from their phones by typing in a phone number or scanning a QR code. You will soon be able to add and control contacts on WhatsApp Web and Windows from the platform owned by Meta. Eventually, other connected devices will also be able to use this feature.
Soon, WhatsApp will also offer the option to save contacts solely to WhatsApp.
“These WhatsApp contacts are ideal for when you are sharing your phone with others or if you want to separate personal and business contacts when managing more than one WhatsApp account on your phone,” according to the business.
Users will like this feature because it allows them to simply restore their WhatsApp contacts in case they misplace their phone or switch devices.
With the latest updates, WhatsApp users can now manage and save contacts using usernames, offering a more private way to connect with friends. This username feature enhances privacy by allowing users to keep their information confidential.
Meta has introduced the Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS), a secure storage system that supports this functionality.
“IPLS enables you to save your contacts and automatically restore them directly through WhatsApp,” Meta stated.
This feature is designed to improve privacy and enhance user personalization. WhatsApp has consistently focused on providing a customized experience for its users. The upcoming features are further steps in this direction.
‘A recent update allows users to create personalized lists straight from their chat list,’ as reported by WABetaInfo. This functionality enables users to filter and highlight specific group chats and contacts.
