WhatsApp will soon stop working for a lot more iPhones and Android phones too

Many WhatsApp users could soon be forced to buy a new phone as the popular messaging app has announced the deadline for ending its support.

The Facebook-owned messaging app — WhatsApp is soon going to end its support for some older Android and iOS versions to make sure that all of the app’s feature properly run in the newer versions of operating systems.

As we reported previously, all Windows phones will lose the ability to access WhatsApp after December 31st, 2019, and now the messaging app has further updated its support page by stating that WhatsApp users of Android versions 2.3.7 and older, likewise, the iOS 7 version and older, will no longer be able to “create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts” on its platform after February 1, 2020.

It is preeminent to note here that hundreds of thousands of people using WhatsApp on old Windows, Android and iOS devices will not be happy when it stops working.

The end of support for WhatsApp means that the company will stop offering any security updates or product updates for the WhatsApp messenger app, in-line with the app’s lifecycle policy. Meanwhile, WABetainfo claims that the messaging app is secretly working on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), that will allow WhatsApp to operate across all Windows 10 devices, including Xbox One among other smartphone devices.

WhatsApp has also mentioned the reason for doing this on their support page as it states, “we no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time.”
