WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature in its latest Android beta version, allowing users to mention entire group chats in their status updates. This new addition builds on a previous update that enabled individual contact mentions. With this enhancement, users can now notify an entire group about their status update, eliminating the need to tag each participant individually.
Unless the group has been disabled, all group members will receive a notification when a group conversation is referenced in a status update. Automatic notification of the status update will also be sent to the mentioned group. In contrast to individual contact mentions, which are restricted to five contacts, group mentions enable users to notify the entire group at once.
Additionally, status updates that reference a group will be automatically visible to all group members, regardless of their privacy settings. This simplifies the process of sharing announcements or updates with large groups, as users no longer need to consider the privacy preferences of individual users.
The feature is currently in the beta testing phase, and further details regarding any limitations on a status update, such as the number of groups that can be tagged in a specific status update or the number of members within a group, have not yet been determined. However, they will be clarified as the update moves closer to a full release.
WhatsApp has implemented a new group-mention feature that is intended for both individual and business users to enhance group communication and interactions. Additional details regarding the functionality of the feature and, if required, enhancements will be disclosed in the coming weeks.
