WhatsApp releases desktop apps for Windows and Mac

WhatsApp

World’s most popular instant messaging service, WhatsApp, has finally unveiled desktop apps for Windows as well as Macs.

The company just announced that it is fully embracing desktop users by unveiling dedicated desktop apps for Windows and Macs. All you need to do is simply download the app and it will act like any other independent desktop app. Apart from that, the service is virtually similar to the WhatsApp web version, allowing you to scan a QR code from your smartphone and giving you full access to all your chats and messaging history.

How to Get WhatsApp for Desktop?

  1. Download the app for your respective operating system by going to this link.
  2. Let it install and then open it.
  3. A QR code will be shown to you. Open WhatsApp on your smartphone, go to settings and click on “WhatsApp Web”.
  4. Scan the QR code with your phone.

Note: You’ll still need your smartphone to have a working internet connection for being connected to WhatsApp desktop. The new desktop app is available for Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+.
WhatsApp has always been a smartphone-exclusive service, available as an app for Android, iOS, Windows and some other smartphone OSs like Nokia’s Symbian and Blackberry too. But there was no official way for using the Facebook-owned instant messaging service from a desktop until they unveiled a web-based version for it a while ago. Now, it seems like everywhere you go, WhatsApp will have an option for you.

And hey, this also means that you can access the Sindh Rangers hotline from your desktop too.
