WhatsApp’s new update gives control over group invites

If you are tired of unwanted group invites then WhatsApp has finally heard you and introduced a new update which gives you more control over privacy and group invites.

Now you will be able to decide who can add in Whatsapp group and who cannot. In the statement issued by WhatsApp, it says: “WhatsApp groups continue to connect family, friends, coworkers, classmates and more. As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience. Today, we’re introducing a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who can add you to groups.”

You will have control over the group messages you receive, in a press release WhatsApp said that the new update is already available for some users, and will be available worldwide in the coming days.

The new feature can be enabled from the privacy setting of the application, tap on Account setting then Privacy and then groups. When you reach there, you will get three options ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’, or ‘My Contacts Except….’.

With the first option ‘Everyone’, anyone can add you to groups, with My Contacts option, only people in contacts can add you to the groups and with the last option, you can restrict specific people from your contacts to add you in groups.

If someone is restricted from adding you in groups, that person can send you an invite through personal message. It will be solely on you whether you are interested to join or not. The press release mentioned that “The users will have three days to accept the invite before it expires”.
