WhatsApp may soon let you play videos in the background even if you switch chats ?

The Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp previously released a picture-in-picture (PIP) feature for both Android and iOS smartphones, which allowed users to play videos in the background while navigating through the same chat. This feature allows users to play videos in a floating / pop-up window while reading other messages from the chat at the same time.

Now, as WABetaInfo reports, WhatsApp is going to bring a new update for the picture-in-picture mode, which will allow Android users to play videos in the background even after switching chats. The upgraded version will work with all the videos featured on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Streamable.

Currently, if users switch or leave a chat window while watching a picture-in-picture video, the video will stop working and users have to play it again from the same chat. But with this new update, users can switch or leave a chat anytime and the video will continue to play in the background in a pop-up window.

This upgrade is still under development phase on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android version 2.19.177. It is expected that this feature will soon land in the stable version of the app, but the company has not revealed any release date as of yet. It is also not confirmed whether the app will release an update for iOS users or not.

WhatsApp is also working on another update which will save users from the embarrassment of sending photos to a wrong contact. In this new update, users will get the recipient name below the caption section while sending a photo to someone to ensure that they do not send any personal picture to the wrong person on WhatsApp.
