WhatsApp beta is reportedly testing ephemeral Stories, 24-hour feed, like Snapchat and Instagram.
The Facebook-owned messaging app already features a “Status Update” option but that is text or emoji –only. Also, it lasts for as long as users like. With the new Stories feature, users will be able to post images or videos as their Status that will last for 24 hours and automatically disappear after that. Reportedly, WhatsApp will allow 6 ephemeral status updates to be posted in a day.
Just like Instagram and Snapchat Stories, you will just have to click the profile pictures of your friends, which usually appear in round circles in the contact list, to see what they’ve posted.
The ephemeral stories attract a lot of users and businesses. More than 150 million Instagrammers have used ephemeral stories feature since its inception last year.
The interface will be redesigned to incorporate a camera button in addition to Status, Chat and Calls tabs.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a revoking feature which will allow users to revoke a message if the recipient has not opened it yet.
The social networking giant, Facebook, is also testing ephemeral Stories feature that will appear at the top of News Feed.
This feature is in beta phase for now. We will update you as soon as it rolls out globally.
