Vivo has announced a new sub-brand by the name of Iqoo which will supposedly work on innovative smartphones. Announcing sub-brands is not a new thing, Huawei does the same with Honor in which it mostly sells low to mid-range smartphones whereas Xiaomi very recently announced the PocoPhone brand which will most likely feature phones with flagship specs but a rather cheap price tag.
The company made the announcement on Weibo but it is tight-lipped regarding what the sub-brand will be working on exactly. Digital Trends predicts that judging by the announcement banner which shows an advanced cityscape, we may see flagship level devices or at least those which have beautiful designs.
Judging from Vivo‘s past history with concept phones, we can Iqoo to pick this level up a notch. It could be possible that Vivo itself would focus on mainstream smartphones whereas Iqoo will focus more on creating concept phones or testing out new designs. Last year in Feb, Vivo was the first company to show off a smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner plus they minimized the bezels of their phone to absolute minimum. Nothing has been officially announced regarding the Iqoo brand. It is quite possible Vivo will use the Mobile World Congress as a center stage for announcing its roadmap for the Iqoo brand.
