Vivo V9 goes official and it’s not a copy of iPhone X entirely

Sadly, the “mass produced” (that’s what Vivo claims) in-display fingerprint scanning technology isn’t induced in this smartphone.

Vivo V9, the successor of Vivo V7 that made its debut in Pakistan late last year, has been recently unveiled by the Chinese company. And our first impressions on the phone lead us to think that Vivo has obviously copied Apple but in a very decent or clever way one can imagine.

Yes, the iPhone X‘s boring ‘notch’ is there, so as the vertically placed dual rear camera. But if you look closely, Vivo has delicately reduced the size of the notch and it’s quite smaller in size as compared to Apple’s. Plus the dual camera setup, though vertically arranged but occupies less space and flash is placed below it. Rest assured, Android-powered manufacturers would not be able to get to Face ID of Apple at least for next two years, hence the phone packs a fingerprint scanner on the rear.

Vivo V9 comes with a gigantic 6.3-inch FullView IPS LCD display with an HD+ screen resolution of 1080*2280 pixels. The screen has an aspect ratio of 19:9. Thanks to its thin bezels, the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor. It boasts a 4GB of RAM and a 64 GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 256 GB by a microSD card.

With a tagline of ‘Perfect Shot, Perfect View’, the main hit of the phone is an AI-powered camera. The phone features a vertically-positioned dual rear-camera setup with a 16MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary depth-sense sensor. The rear camera has an aperture rate of f/2.0 and comes equipped with an LED flash. The camera supports an HDR mode and combines it with its AI capabilities to enhance the quality of the images it clicks.

The phone features a massive 24-megapixel front camera with an aperture rate of f/2.0. This is a remarkable addition to the V-series as the front camera features AI face beauty, AR stickers, and a remarkable security feature — Face Access 2.0 as well. Face Access is used as a way of unlocking your phone and various apps, but it is still an immature tech.

The phone runs on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The phone’s battery capacity is 3,260 mAH. It comes in three colors — Champagne Gold, Sapphire Blue, and Pearl Black.

The phone is currently launched in India and is available for pre-ordering with a price tag of $350. The phone is likely to make its debut in other emerging markets like Pakistan next month.
