Elon Musk, one of the most well-known inventors of our time, has released a self-deprecating blooper reel of all the rockets that have been blown up by SpaceX before they were able to successfully land one.
During the early days of SpaceX, when Elon Musk and Co were still learning how to land their rockets, they went through a lot of setbacks. But instead of taking it to heart, he fully embraced it and recorded every single rocket that blew up in the process. On August 31st, he announced that a SpaceX blooper reel would soon hit the Internet. Now it is here and it looks brilliant. Rockets blowing up against the background of a clear blue sky really does look very glorious.
The video features some brilliantly captured footage of SpaceX rockets, with a Monty Python theme song running in the background, and some very witty captions to keep you entertained. In Musk’s own words, it describes “the sordid history of how the SpaceX Falcon 9, the first fully reusable, orbit-class booster rocket, eventually managed to land in one piece and stay that way”.
In the video you’ll see some brilliant footage of rockets exploding mid-air, some landing smoothly and then toppling on a weak landing pad, with hilarious quips like ‘The course of true love never did run smooth’. However, it isn’t all about rockets bursting into flames. The ends with a smooth landing of the Falcon 9 and in a tweet Musk recalls the “long road to re-usability of Falcon 9 primary boost stage”. He further added that “when upper stage & fairing also reusable, costs will drop by a factor > 100.”
