Urgent Reforms Needed for Pakistan’s E-Commerce Policy, Experts Say
KARACHI: Experts emphasized the pressing need to update Pakistan’s e-commerce policy, which was last revised in 2019; in a workshop here on Thursday.
Dr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna, Deputy Head of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), highlighted that the policy, originally designed to create an enabling environment for the holistic growth of e-commerce across all sectors, now requires significant updates.
E-commerce policy aims to protect the interests of consumers and sellers, with a particular focus on developing and promoting SMEs, positioning Pakistan as a prominent player in both regional and global digital economies.
Speaking at a workshop held by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Dr. Ratna emphasized the significance of upgrading the policy to better match with current market trends and global digital practices.
The course, which focused on digital marketing and geared primarily at empowering female entrepreneurs, offered participants with critical insights and skills required to flourish in the rapidly changing digital economy.
Dr. Ratna’s talk emphasized the need to provide business executives with tools that support success in today’s competitive digital environment.
This initiative, organized by the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur Council (SCWEC) in partnership with the UNESCAP South and South-West Office,is a significant step toward empowering women entrepreneurs. It underlines the importance of digital platforms as key drivers of company growth and economic inclusion in Pakistan.
