We have entered 2nd day of CES 2018, where several electronics’ manufacturers are showcasing their several innovative gadgets, while tech giants and software companies are also not sitting silently. Though announcements at a big event are not much considerable, yet this one by tech mammoth Google certainly drives our attention. From this week, Android Auto users in the U.S. will also get full support for the Google Assistant in their cars.
For Google, this year’s CES is all about its Assistant, as it has unveiled various new features of its product. As the Assistant is already available on Android Auto but it’s like an old Now-style Assitant which is only limited to voice commands. The newer updated Assistant will be able to access all of your third-party Google Assitant services and will be able to control your smart home devices just by receiving commands from your cars.
To check if you have been upgraded to the newer version, Assistant logo with three circles must appear on the screen of Android Auto. If you are still seeing the four moving bars when the voice search starts, it means you’re still on the old system.
Furthermore, this upgraded Assistant will be able to order drinks for you from the Starbucks, while driving. You can even reserve parking space through SpotHero.
Google is also planning to expand the reach of the Assitant to other car manufacturers. In this regard, Google has partnered with Kia and Fiat Chrysler to give the Assistant access to their cars’ fuel levels and to allow users to lock their cars with their voice. However, these features are already available on a number of Mercedes Benz and Hyundai cars.
