Universal Windows apps for Facebook, Instagram and Messenger are coming finally

Universal apps for Windows for Facebook, Instagram and Messenger have finally been announced and will be coming to the Windows Store soon.

Today at Microsoft’s Build Developer Conference, the company announced a number of important things and one major announcement was to address the lack of quality apps in the Windows Store. Microsoft’s executive vice president for Windows and Devices group Terry Myerson took the stage to reveal that Facebook will finally unveil universal apps for three of the company’s biggest products: Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.

Windows Store has had a lackluster collection of applications since its inception when compared to its Android and iOS counterparts but according to Myerson, there is a significant growth of the Windows app store and ecosystem, with more than 5 billion visits to the Windows Store alone. The long-anticipated addition of Facebook’s suite of apps is not only going to benefit Microsoft’s platform, but will also help Facebook in keeping its dominance across every platform, be it mobile or desktop.

The social networking giant is also extending its Facebook Audience Network, a mobile ad network that lets advertisers bid and manage their marketing to a targeted group, and App Install SDK to developers on Windows. Alongside giving Facebook a much greater reach, this will also give developers more ways to monetize their apps.

Windows 10 has now reached 270 million devices and has the fastest adoption rate of any Windows version ever. Naturally, Microsoft is looking to improve its app collection to keep those users hooked onto the platform and bringing Facebook onboard is a step in the right direction.
