Dr Umar Saif, the Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Vice Chancellor ITU, has joined the Cabinet of Punjab as an IT advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab, Shabaz Sharif.
With the new status that approximately, equates to that of a Provincial Minister, Dr Umar Saif will act as an active advisor in technological transformations in the province. He will report to the Chief Minister with his invaluable expertise and provide suggestions as per the respective roles of an advisor of a provincial cabinet.
On various grounds, Dr Umar Saif has been found putting in his utmost efforts. Currently, he is the Chairman at the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). He has also led PITB to launch the Pakistan’s first government incubator, Plan9, and PlanX. He co-working space for Pakistani freelancers TechHub Connect. He has also worked as a core member of the $50 million Project Oxygen at MIT.
For his relentless services, he was awarded with Sitara-e-Imtiaz. This year, he has also been ranked among the top 500 most influential muslims around the world. Having received the MIT Technovator Award in 2008, he was also named among the 35 World’s Top Young Innovators for the year 2011 by the MIT Technology Review.
