The newly launched Uber service, a platform for connecting drivers to riders, has just signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The MoU is a step forward by Uber to improve the safety net of people who will be using this service in the country.
According to the partnership, PITB will be facilitating Uber in background checks of people who sign up for Uber. The background checks will involve record of ownership, driving history and criminal record of drivers. While talking about the partnership, Umar Saif, Chairman PITB said,
“We are proud to partner with Uber. The service will pave way for creating more economic opportunities for individuals and local enterprises.”
Doing proper background checks is a decision that will be welcomed by every Uber service user in the country. After an array of negative incidents in Uber’s international service. This is a step, indeed, in the right direction.
