Two ex-employees of NADRA charged for stealing sensitive data

Two former employees of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) have been identified for stealing sensitive information from NADRA Headquarters.

NADRA has nominated ex-deputy chairman along with the ex-deputy director in the first information report (FIR). NADRA HQ Chief of Staff Col (r) Tahir Maqsood Khan lodged the complaint.

The FIR is registered at the Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad and both of the former employees have been booked under Section 380 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The former deputy chairman was dismissed from service sometime earlier. The former deputy director allegedly stole sensitive data along with laptops and flash drives from the work station. As per the FIRs, the ex NADRA workers were asked to return the data and were also issued a warning in this regard.

Last month, NADRA denied all the allegations regarding breach in voters data that was alleged by some of the political quarters. Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wrote a letter to the authority and a day after that NADRA issued clarification and raised the issue of leak of voters data by someone in authority to Pakistan Muslim League (N). ECP letter stated that the breach had occurred in the computerized electoral rolls system (CERS).

Four director generals had denied the allegations while they were addressing a press conference held in Islamabad. NADRA Spokesperson Faiq Ali told Dawn news that NADRA also communicated with Federal Investigation Agency and lodged a complaint there as well.
