Twitter will live stream video 24 hours

If you have a Twitter account, prep yourself for some great news coming your way. In a press statement, Anthony Noto, the CFO and COO of Twitter, has stated that the social media platform aims to broadcast live video with news, sports and entertainment being the main focus. The video broadcast is to be 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

That is basically to say the video feed will be available around the clock. Calling it simply Twitter TV, Noto did not state exactly when the service will be available but promised a lot saying that “We’re working on many, many things,” and “There’s a lot in the pipeline.” That is a big step for the relatively relaxed Twitter.

No one knows of any content already on board but all will be made public at the NewsFronts event to be held next week. At this event, social media platforms exhibit their programming capabilities. With Twitter attending it for the first time, it will be a grand entrance. Perhaps the clearest indication of what to expect from Twitter TV came from Noto who stated that the “Focus in on it when you hear something that’s of interest, but then maybe not be 100 percent focused on it when it’s not of interest. I did that myself during the debates.”

It is good news for Twitter users especially after the firm lost a bidding war against retail giant Amazon for the rights to stream Thursday Night NFL games. Amazon reportedly paid $50 for the rights. While some see the loss of the deal as a big blow to Twitter, Noto thinks it is the beginning of better things to come.

He said that the broadcast of the Thursday Night NFL games was a sign that Twitter is “a really high profile brand and one that has really high expectations for product quality. It caused people to come and see if we could deliver.”

When Twitter TV is finally launched, it will truly be the big step Twitter has been raring to take a for a while now.
