Twitter is testing a new, lightweight app for countries with the slow or expensive internet. Back in April, Twitter also introduced a mobile and data-friendly version of its mobile website which you can browse on any browser on your mobile. But a lite version of the app was still missing.
All big companies are putting their efforts to make light versions of their apps for low-end Android devices and countries with slow internet. Facebook has Facebook Lite, which is just under an MB in size and works great even on slow internet connections because it takes the minimum amount of data. Similarly, LinkedIn also has LinkedIn Lite and Google has introduced a lite version of its search app for countries with slow Internet.
Twitter Lite has multiple data saving features. You can turn off the media which takes a lot of data. There is also a “Data Saver” mode and when you enable it, the app will only load images and videos when you tap on them. According to the company, the new app will save up to 70% overall data. Moreover, the app launches 30% faster than the regular Twitter app.
Here are some screenshots of the app:
Twitter Lite is currently in testing phase and is available in the Philippines. Other countries might have to wait for a few weeks or months to get their hands on the new Twitter Lite app. However, if you are eager to try the new Twitter Lite app, you can download the APK file below and install it on your phone. The app is only 455 KB in size.
