Whether you like it or not, it’s time to break free from 140 characters limit. Twitter announced Yesterday, that it is officially rolling out an update to expand character limit to 280 for nearly all of its users.
This feature has been long awaited by many users of Twitter who want to share their views in a more elaborative way. The company’s decision came after a 280-character trial run that began in September for a selected community of people who mostly protested the change and consequently started writing long tweets.
Twitter product manager Aliza Rosen explained the results of an earlier test conducted for doubling the tweet’s length. She says via blog post,
“We saw when people needed to use more than 140 characters, they Tweeted more easily and more often. But importantly, people Tweeted below 140 most of the time and the brevity of Twitter remained.”
All Twitter users except those tweeting in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages will now be able to tweet up to 280 characters.
Doubling character limit will be surely helpful for many Twitter users. Twitter is one of the leading social networks for expressing views on important social causes like women empowerment as we reported earlier in a case where women initialized campaign against sexual harassment.
Twitter has become the ultimate platform for political leaders, business leaders, corporates, journalists and for all those intellectuals who want to share their views of their meaningful cause. Twitter has become a leading social media platform for those intellects who have the common sense to share their thoughts in an appropriate manner.
