Ali Zafar came into the music industry in 2003 (seems like yesterday) with his debut album and has not stepped out of the spotlight since then. He has almost half a million followers and tweets regularly about everything under the sun however he also uses his Twitter to promote his music and movies and even reach out to fans.
6. Fatima Bhutto (450k followers)
Fatima Bhutto too joined Twitter in 2009 and is known for her political and intellectual tweets. Her political tweets come from her being the niece of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto whereas her intellect stems from the fact that she is an accomplished book writer and poet with a degree from Columbia University. Following her is a good idea especially if you are into literature and reading books.
7. Mubasher Lucman (433k followers)
Another journalist/TV show anchor to make our list is Mubasher Lucman. His Twitter is full of powerful and unfiltered takes on the government and various political figures. He really doesn’t hold back in his narrative of what’s right or wrong in the geopolitical climate of South Asia.
8. Maryam Nawaz Sharif (420k followers)
Yes, the Prime Minister’s daughter is on Twitter! Maryam Nawaz Sharif is of course, an advocate of her father’s political party and tweets about the elected government’s positive efforts and projects. She also talks about world happenings such as the situation in Gaza. Unfortunately she does not hold any objective discourse on the government’s sometimes very questionable stances so don’t follow her Twitter if you’re looking for some political bashing or real analysis.
9. Syed Talat Hussain (399k followers)
Another TV anchor/senior analyst who uses Twitter to talk about Pakistani and South Asian news. He joined Twitter in 2011 and is currently promoting relief efforts for the IDPs and of course highlighting the gross injustice in Gaza. His Twitter is again a good way of staying updated with different political views if you do not have the time to watch his TV show.
10. PTI Official (392k followers)
This is the second time PTI is being mentioned on this list. As the name states, this is PTI’s official Twitter and apart from promoting PTI’s relentless political activism and marches, this page also analysis (and sometimes criticizes) the elected government. PTI Official has a drastically lower number of followers compared to the Chairman’s Twitter standing in at 1.2 million followers- probably because many PTI members and supporters already follow Imran Khan and don’t feel the need to “double follow” both his page and PTI Official (expecting both to deliver almost the same nature of Tweets).
