Avast, a security software company, unveils top 10 performance draining applications of 2016 in the latest “Avast Android App Performance & Trend Report for Q3 2016”.
The report consists of World’s Greediest Mobile Apps, Top 10 battery draining apps, Top 10 storage hogging apps and Top 10 traffic hogging apps. Facebook topped the list of “World’s Greediest Mobile Apps” that run at startup. Avast calculates the impact of the applications on battery life, storage capacity and data plan usage. It states,
“In comparison to the first half of 2016, we have seen a lot of change in the list of most resource hungry automatic applications. Top ranking apps in the first half of 2016, WhatsApp, Kik Messenger and WeChat have completely disappeared from the top slots, replaced by WhatsCall and musical.ly.”
Facebook, Google Maps, Instagram, Facebook Pages Manager and Facebook Messenger continue to rank high with positions 1, 3, 6, 9 and 10 respectively.
Musical.ly, the app used to create beautiful musical videos, made it to the 2nd place in the list. Just watching 25 clips back to back uses 100MB of data and drains a lot of battery. Whatscall, Skype’s competitor, is 4th on the list because it keeps draining the battery even if not in use.
Snapchat, Spotify, Line, Tinder, Clean Master and Google Sheets also made it to the list of performance draining apps run by users. Gagan Singh, Avast SVP and GM Mobile Business, said,
“With smartphones taking center stage in our digital lives, people’s expectations are not only to be safe online, but to have a great experience. These app performance charts are a great example of helping users understand how they need to manage their app usage thoughtfully in order to get the most out of their devices, without limiting enjoyment of their favorite apps.”
Avast also listed the ways to save and boost battery life, free up storage and reduce data traffic in the report.
