Tim Cook’s employee approval rating went down in 100 Highest-Rated CEO’s survey

According to the list of 100 Highest-Rated CEOs, Apple’s Tim Cook now ranks 96th, after falling 43 places. The rating is aggregated by employee reviews. The previous year, Cook dropped from 8th position to 53rd which is followed by this year’s decline, which is the biggest for any CEO on the list.

The annual list is published by Glassdoor, an online platform for employees to anonymously review companies and their management. Current and former employees are asked if they approve the CEO of their company as a part of an overall review of the company as a place to work at. The average CEO approval rating is just 67 percent across all companies reviewed on the platform. Despite falling drastically in approval ratings over the two years, Cook still enjoys 91 percent approval as a leader.

The three major reasons for the dissatisfaction of Apple employees are attributed to the culture of secrecy, high stress and a strict chain of command. These factors have long been established in Apple’s work culture. On the positive side, employees cited good benefits, friendly colleagues, and a fun environment as major benefits of working at Apple.

CEO Eric Yuan of Zoom Video Communications, a cloud-based video conferencing solution is currently leading the list with 99 percent approval rating by employees. CEO LinkedIn, Jeff Reiner ranks at 8th while Mark Zuckerberg of the biggest social network, Facebook ranks 16th. CEOs of Microsoft and Google, Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai have secured 20th and 45th positions respectively while CEO SpaceX, Elon Musk falls behind at 49th.
