TikTok Removed Over 6 Million Pakistani Clips In Three Months

In recent news, the ever-popular video-sharing social media platform known as TikTok released its quarterly transparency report which indicated that Pakistan was the second largest country to violate the company’s community guidelines. As a result, over 6 million videos were removed that violated the respective guidelines.

This isn’t a surprise as recently the Sindh High Court had ordered a nationwide ban on the platform due to the promotion of immoral content by TikTok users. According to TikTok’s report, from the period of January to March 2021 approximately 61.95 million videos were removed globally which is less than 1 percent of the overall videos on the platform.

However, in accordance to the Pakistan region over 6.49 million videos were removed while the highest number of videos removed from the platform is 8.54 million which comes from the U.S due to the involvement of adult nudity in the videos.

According to Jamin Tan, TikTok’s Head of Asia Pacific Region for product policy, trust, and safety, stated the following:
“Of those videos, 79.6pc were removed before they were reported to us, 88.4pc were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded to TikTok, and 61.2pc had zero views. After receiving an appeal, TikTok reviews the video a second time and reinstates it if it had been mistakenly removed.”

Despite the concerns and violation of guidelines, TikTok is working tirelessly with public health experts to help the community stay safe and properly inform the community on the latest COVID-19 updates.
