This will be first smartphone manufacturer with inscreen fingerprint sensor

Nope, it is not Samsung.

Just a couple of days ago, we told our readers that Synaptics, a fingerprint sensor manufacturer, has announced the mass production of its optical in-display fingerprint sensors. With that, it announced that the mass production is happening for one of the top smartphones manufactures in the world. A lot of people speculated that Samsung is going to be that brand because it faced a lot of heat last year for the awkward placement of fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

Well, for our readers that smartphone manufacturer is not Samsung. It is Vivo which was hailed at 5th position by the IDC report. Vivo might not be a known name in Western countries but it has emerged as a top-notch brand with quality phones in Asia.

It was crowned as the 5th most popular smartphone manufacturer in Q1 of 2017, so it wouldn’t be a surprise that Synaptics has partnered with Vivo for their inscreen fingerprint scanner. Synaptics claims that their fingerprint scanner is twice as fast as the iPhone Face ID recognition system. But it is a bit difficult to compare both of the technologies as they are drastically different from each other in terms of working mechanism.

Another interesting thing to note here is that Vivo has ranked 3rd in the smartphone race in India which is a huge consumers market. Let’s see how Vivo uses the technology in its smartphones. On the other hand, a few renders of Samsung Galaxy S9 have emerged which shows that although Samsung has patented the inscreen finger print sensor it will not be using it in the upcoming S9, as the render clearly shows Samsung Galaxy S9 having the sensor in the back side just below the vertically aligned camera sequence.
