The upcoming 2019 Galaxy A smartphone series might be Samsung’s first mobiles to have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Rumors have surfaced that the Galaxy A series might be instilled with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Considering the fact that the 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus launched before the Galaxy S9, industry experts have said that the next Galaxy A series will be launched before the Galaxy S10 as well.
This certainly doesn’t mean that the Galaxy A smartphones will be the first smartphones to have an in-display sensor, Vivo and Oppo have already beat Samsung in that regard. Vivo Nex and Oppo’s Find X come with in-display fingerprint sensors.
However, Samsung’s policy of “Follow but Exceed” has worked out well for them uptil now, which can be judged by how beautifully Samsung incorporated Face Unlock in the S9 (clone of Apple’s Face ID). So it’s safe to say that Samsung’s try at an in-display fingerprint sensor is bound to be better than its other Android counterparts.
Three variants of the Galaxy S10 are expected to be released next year. Two of them will have a dual-lens camera setup while the third will have a triple-lens camera setup. The budget variant of the S10 will cost roughly $550 (expected) while the topmost variant is rumored to break (or at least touch) the $1000 barrier. The Galaxy S10’s cheap variant is expected to carry the design of the Galaxy S7, i.e. a flat body with solid bezels.
Further rumors state that all three variants are going to be equipped with OLEDs of 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.4-inch displays. The 6.4-inch variant is expected to be called the S10 Plus and is likely to compete with Apple’s upcoming 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus.
The introduction of an in-display fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy A series might be Samsung’s attempt at getting their revenues back on track after they suffered a 4% loss in sales the 2nd quarter of 2018 relative to the second quarter of last year. Furthermore, the fact that their S9 sold fewer units than the S7 speaks volumes about the troubles faced by the Korean giant amid the global smartphone demand shortage. Regardless of that, will you buy the Galaxy A if it comes with a fingerprint sensor? Or would you prefer waiting for the S10 itself?
