The upcoming iPhone may ditch Lightning port for USB-C

Apple has to come back strong this year with the upcoming iPhones if it hopes to recover from last year’s disappointing sales figures and win back investors. One of the major changes expected is a USB Type-C port on the upcoming iPhone instead of Apple’s own proprietary Lightning port.

This would be a rather surprising move considering Apple ditched the headphone jack in an apparent move to lure third-party manufacturers to make accessories using the Lightning Port, for which each manufacturer has to pay royalties to Apple. It could be Apple wants to win customer hearts by showing that it is also committed to the universal standard of data transfer and charging being used in the Android ecosystem.

Another major development is a possibility of a three rear camera setup for the upcoming iPhone. The third camera is expected to have even more powerful zoom, higher resolution and a wider depth of field than on any iPhone we have so far. Bloomberg also suggests that the 2020 iPhones will possibly have rear 3D camera system which is currently only available on the front camera side. It allows the camera to measure distance and depth using lasers, making them better for AR/VR apps.

Do you think Apple will be able to bounce back this year from last time’s disappointing performance?
