Jehan Ara, President P@SHA made an important announcement at the P@SHA ICT Awards 2014 last night. A tech incubator, aptly named The Nest I/O, will be launched in Karachi in collaboration with global tech giants such as Google & Samsung. Head on below for more details about this most anticipated tech incubator.
P@SHA will inaugurate the largest technology incubator in Karachi with its global partners Google for Entrepreneurs, Samsung and US State Department. This is Google’s first on ground investment in Pakistan and Samsung’s first partnership of its kind anywhere in the world.
The Nest will open its doors in the first week of December, 2014. This was made possible through the substantial support provided by its local & global partners, a handsome total funding worth $1.37 million US Dollars.
The Nest will facilitate 50+ technology teams and offer co-working space to further 700 technology entrepreneurs during its first year of launch. Additionally, the incubatees will have access to 28 Tech Hub Incubators worldwide which are also supported by Google.
Jehan Ara, President of P@SHA, stated in an official statement, “The funding provided by our Partners is of course necessary and has enabled us to launch such an ambitious project. But more important than the grants is the support and outreach that technology giants Google and Samsung will be able to provide to product teams with potential.”
The incubation project was part of P@SHA’s long term vision and had been under development for the last three years. This makes it a major step from P@SHA to help grow the technology entrepreneurial community in Pakistan.
Commenting on the upcoming launch, Google for Entrepreneurs Senior Partnerships & Programs Manager Bridgette Beam said, “Pakistan has leading talent and a thriving entrepreneurial spirit. We’re excited to connect great entrepreneurs from The Nest to startups and communities around the world through the Google for Entrepreneurs network. There are big things ahead for startups in Karachi with The Nest.”
Karachi is the perfect fit for Technology incubator as it is home to 15 million young people with dreams and talent that need to be polished and converted into ideas that can stand on their own. The incubation project will serve as a bridge between talent, opportunity & commercial development.
