Shadow Brokers, the group that previously leaked the tools responsible for the global ransomware attack that followed, has threatened that it would soon release more Windows related exploits and the associated malware.
The group said that it would be launching a serial data dump of hacking tools that supposedly are developed by the US spy company, National Security Agency (NSA). Claiming that they have more such tools which can exploit vulnerabilities in newer operating systems, Shadow Brokers said that the tools would be released on a subscription-wise basis.
Although it is still unclear as to what operating systems would come under attack following the release of new malware, the reports had it that Microsoft Windows 10 would possibly be the target. Windows 10 users and the users which were running latest updates on their software remained unaffected by the recent ransomware wave.
In the blogpost which was made yesterday, the group claiming to be Shadow Brokers, said, “Shadow Brokers feels that it was “being very responsible” about April’s dump—the one that resulted in WannaCrypt/WannaCry, and the potential for many more exploits.” It further said, “If a responsible party buys all lost data before it is sold, then Shadow Brokers will have no more financial incentives to be taking continued risks of operation and will go dark permanently. You have our Bitcoin address.”
The Shadow Brokers mentioned that the leaked data could contain web browser, router, handset exploits and tools, newer Ops Disks and exploits for Windows 10, compromised network data from Central banks and compromised network data from Russian, Chinese, Iranian, or North Korean nuclear and missile programs.
The first wave of WannaCry related hack surfaced last week which took over computers in some more than 150 countries worldwide. Recently, some newer versions of WannaCry have also emerged.
