Elon Musk has revealed the Tesla’s Solar Roof tiles. There are two packages mentioned on the official website, one roof has an integrated solar panel of 10kw solar capacity which will cost $33,950 for 2,000 ft², and the other one has premium and typical roof with additional solar panel, which will cost $43,790 and $34,550 respectively.
Although prices will vary on the size and location, the good news is Tesla has announced 25 year warranty for its new solar roof. The new solar roof has dark tempered glass and According to Musk he will keep introducing new designs every six to nine months.
This is the third version of Tesla’s Solar Roof and as compare to the previous ones the company has increased the power density and lower the number of parts used in the tiles by half. The price is also very much less than the past, Tesla says it varies on different things but they are sure that 80% of the time, it will cost cheaper.
CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk said “It’s been quite hard to get to this point,” he added, “This was a quite a difficult product because roofs have to last for a long time. And then when you add electrification to the roof, it gets even more difficult.”
In the start company will be installing the roof all by itself, but later on it will hire third party contractors for that. The target is to install the roof within the eight hours which is very quick as compare to the typical roof installation. The company is also hoping to produce 1000 roofs every week.
