Telenor to shut down 17 service & support centers across Pakistan

Telenor has announced to shut down its sales and support service centers across Pakistan.

Customers will have to turn to about 289 franchises to get after-sale services and support. As per news, about 17 of the company-owned support centers will close down and as a result, all the people employed there are going to lose their jobs. A handout issued by the firm reads,

“With the changing dynamics of industry, customer demands and technology, it is now possible to serve customers in a better, faster and more efficient way through various other means. The move, primarily in line with Telenor’s long-term ambitions to empower its customers, will however, impact the company’s S&SC staff linked with these channels who have been offered a Voluntary Severance Scheme (VSS).”

VSS is a cost-cutting or lay-off scheme in which employees are asked to resign voluntarily from a firm and, in turn, they receive a fair compensation. Telenor is offering compensations, medical allowances, bonuses and other necessary support to the impacted employees so that the process is completed smoothly.

Telenor plans to equip the franchises with all necessary features so that support services are provided without any hindrance in operations. Telenor thinks that customers are well-aware and self-reliant now and they can use helplines and online portals to resolve any queries.

Telenor Pakistan, owned by international Telenor Group, is second largest mobile operator in Pakistan with subscribers’ base of over 36 million. It has a network of over 200,000 retailers, franchises and support centers, thus providing means of livelihood to thousands of Pakistanis.

The story will be updated upon receiving further details.
