Telenor Pakistan and Homeshopping.pk introduces digital authentication solution ‘Mobile Connect’

Telenor Pakistan has introduced Mobile Connect in collaboration with Telenor Digital and Homeshopping.pk, Pakistan’s premier online retailer. This initiative is in line with Telenor Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen the internet ecosystem in the country by enhancing customer experience and standardizing digital authentication for Telenor Pakistan’s customers.

Mobile Connect is a secure universal log-in solution that allows users to log-in to websites and applications quickly by matching them to their mobile phone without the need to remember passwords and usernames.  The open beta trial will enable Telenor subscribers to log in to the Homeshopping mobile and desktop sites simply by clicking the Mobile Connect button without the need to fill any forms or sign up. Although logging in through social networks can also remove the need for passwords, many people worry their personal information will be used without their permission. Following recent high profile online security breaches, people have become increasingly cautious about giving out personal details in case they fall into the wrong hands. But with Mobile Connect, logging in is more private and secure as the user is authenticated only through their mobile phone and no personal information is shared.

Announcing the launch of Mobile Connect, Irfan Wahab Khan, Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer, Telenor Pakistan, said:

“In today’s digital world where mobile is at the heart of all the big changes that we see around us, it is absolutely necessary to have a secure digital identity for the customers. Pakistan being an emerging market with people adopting mobile at a staggering scale, especially needed a digital authentication solution that’s simple, relevant, and further increases customer trust. Realizing that, Telenor Pakistan decided to introduce Mobile Connect for its valued customers so they could have easy access to a secure digital identity. We aim to expand our scope further in the near future by extending partnerships with other e-services in Pakistan and stay committed towards building an ecosystem to advance internet growth in the country.”

Using Mobile Connect on Homeshopping.pk is simple on both mobile and desktop sites. Using mobile site, simply pressing the Mobile Connect button will log the user into the site. While using Homeshopping.pk on a computer, users will go through a simple mobile number verification before they can log in to the site.

Telenor is planning to run Mobile Connect trials in all Asian markets during the next couple of months. This is part of the global GSMA initiative to launch Mobile Connect as an industry-standard ID & authentication mechanism where the target is to enable 1 Billion users during 2016.
