The Minister for IT & Telecom, Mrs. Anusha Rahman, formally handed over the 850 MHz license to Mr. Michael Foley ex-CEO Telenor Pakistan at the “License awarding Ceremony”.
Telenor won the 850 MHz spectrum auction, earlier in June. This was just the awarding ceremony for the official hand-over of the license.
Anusha Rahman congratulated Telenor Pakistan and appreciated their significant role at the Telecom sector of Pakistan.
Michael Foley, ex-CEO Telenor Pakistan, addressed the ceremony saying, “Telenor is committed to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to become a digitally developed nation. Driven by our vision of empowering societies, our success to date has been built on a simple realization: mobile communication, financial services and internet are not luxury goods for the few; they are for everyone.”
The Chairman PTA and senior officials from FAB and MoIT, and Secretary IT were also present on the occasion. Secretary IT Mr. Rizwan Bashir congratulated Telenor Pakistan for winning the auction.
PTA had announced a 10MHz block in 850MHz band to be auctioned off at a base price of $395 million and Telenor was the only telecom that submitted a bid. As a result, the telecom became only the third 4G provider in Pakistan.
