5G: What to expect at CES 2018?

The CES 2018 is starting from next week and the anticipation of the innovative gadgets which will be showcased in this amusing tech show is growing day by day. The world’s biggest consumer electronics show will highlight the next generations of wireless technology that will play a leading role in reshaping telecom industry in the next decade.

CES is going to be an event where we will be seeing a lot of discussion on autonomous cars, connected homes, smart cities, and IoT. But guess what? The driving force behind the innovations over the next generation is going to be 5G. 5G which stands for fifth-generation wireless technology can be assumed as the successor of 4G. The tech analysts predict 5G as a host for the foundation of other technological trends in coming years.

Just for a quick flashback of last year’s CES, Qualcomm’s CEO Steve Mollenkopf described 5G as the biggest thing after the invention of electricity. However, a lot of work needs to be done for 5G to achieve wide-scale production, after its launching in 2019. Meanwhile, it has also been affirmed in the report that 5G networks will reach a minimum of 20% of the world’s population by the year 2023.

The new world of 5G isn’t just limited to its speed, acknowledging the fact that you will get high download speeds and bufferless 4K streaming. However, the real benefits of 5G are somehow different, which includes reliability above all. The technology offers super high speeds that are reliable and consistent, even indoors or in congested areas. 5G will also come with an increased bandwidth.

Latency is another problem with phones these days. There is an annoying lag between when you send a request for a website or video and when the network responds to it. 5G will reduce this time to 1 millisecond, which means that it will be 400 times faster than a blink of an eye.

The leaders of various tech giants including the likes of Intel, Nokia, and Ericsson will be opening debates on the next generation of wireless technology at different conferences organized at CES 2018.
