Suparco sent the world’s biggest telescope to space, says Fawad Ch

The Federal Minister Fawad Ch who recently took charge of the Science and Technology sector in Pakistan mistakenly said that the world’s biggest Hubble Space Telescope was sent into space by Pakistan’s aeronautics and aerospace research agency, Suparco. He made these comments while talking to the host in Geo News programme Naya Pakistan.

Fawad Ch, yesterday on Twitter said that a five-member committee of experts has been established which will determine moon sightings for important dates and months including Ramzan, Eid, and Muharram for the next 10 years in the Islamic calendar. This will put an end to all the moon-sighting controversies that arise every year, the minister said.

While talking to the media he also stated that the committee will include members from SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) and MET office and will use the latest technology to determine the dates of events in Pakistan.

To explain how the committee will determine the dates the minister made an amusing comment saying, “one of the ways to see is the Hubble Telescope, which is the world’s biggest telescope and was sent [into space] by Suparco, which is installed in a satellite”

On the other hand, the Chief of the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman strongly disagreed with the minister and said that Fawad should not speak in matters he doesn’t understand.

Mufti Rehman said, “The science and technology minister doesn’t understand the sensitivity of the issue he shouldn’t have a license to speak on it. He doesn’t even know that the committee meets at Suparco. I have previously appealed to the Prime Minister to let speak only concerned minister on religious issues”.

The federal minister previously made a similar amusing statement about space in which he said that there are many politicians here on the ground who are creating chaos and should be sent to space. He said, “I will ask SUPARCO to ensure that once these politicians go to space, they cannot return”.
